Countdown
The following is just a guide to the timing of the various elements involved in drawing together the wedding arrangements. Try not to leave things to the last minute – panic-stricken is not a good state of mind in which to get married!
15 - 6 months
- Set a wedding date
- Set budget
- Draw up guest list
- Book venues for ceremony and reception, arrange catering
- Order invitations etc.
- Select best man and attendants
- Book transport, photographer and video services
- Organise clothes for bride, groom and attendants.
- Book honeymoon.
- Decide on rings
6 months
- Confirm arrangements with minister – discuss service readings and music
- Organise flowers
- Order cake
3 months
- Confirm booking with register office
- Deal with honeymoon preparations by arranging passports, visas, vaccinations and foreign currency
- Organise gift list
- Send out invitations with gift list.
- Buy going-away outfit
- Book wedding night hotel
1 month
- Choose presents for attendants and best man
- List everyone attending wedding, chase up late replies and confirm numbers with caterers
- Organise seating plan- Check that wedding outfits will be ready on time
- Book hair appointment
- Check on transport
- Notify bank and other official bodies of change of name/address etc
- Arrange stag and hen nights for at least a week before the wedding
1 week
- Check honeymoon booking and pack holiday clothes
- Hold wedding rehearsal
- Check outfits are complete
- Have final hair and make-up practice
- Wear in shoes at home
On the day
Ask family and friends to do the following: -
- Ensure best man has rings ready for ceremony
- Take cases to wedding night hotel
- Take wedding clothes home back after you leave reception and return any hire clothes to shops
- Take wedding presents home
- Send out wedding cake as required
